Spotlight On: Megan Roy

Every so often, The Study Room catches up with our favourite freelancers, creatives & fellow business owners to find out what really makes them tick (and jump out of bed everyday)

This week we caught up with illustrator & lover of dogs, Megan Roy
Keep checking in with us as we will meet with lots of people from lots of different specialities, to help you make the most of your day!
Roy's wonderfully bright & funny illustrations are a reflection of the Los Angeles vibe that we all strive for.

t's a sensibility that has been working well for her; she has collaborated with HelloGiggles, Sugar & Cloth & Outpost supply Co. She also has just launched a really exciting collab with Casetify and cards available through Etsy; who wouldn't want to brighten someone's day (or let's be honest, your own) with one of her cards!

We caught up with her to find out what a typical day like.

What does a typical day look like to you?

Because I work from home and am able to make my own schedule, no two days are alike! I'll usually start my day by walking my dog, then checking emails and adding any new projects to my calendar. After that I'll jump into the day's tasks, break for lunch at some point, walk my dog again, and post to Instagram. Some days I work well into the evenings, and others I don't have much to do at all. It varies quite a bit, but that's what I like about it!

Where do you call your office?

My house! I bounce around from room to room, but am definitely the most productive in the office.

How did you end up in your line of work?

I was always drawn to the arts and creative work, but didn't considered illustration a viable career path until relatively recently. I went to school for film and TV production in Boston, then moved to Los Angeles to pursue that. Eventually I realised that wasn't quite the right fit and reverted to an old hobby: drawing!

What is one thing you wish you had known at the beginning?

I feel like I spent a lot of time trying to make practical, reasonable life choices and I wish I had just done what felt right and natural for me (not for my family, or friends, or society) from the start. I might have landed in this line of work a lot earlier if I had just trusted my instincts. I like to tell people that once I started doing that, things began to fall into place naturally. I didn't have to try quite as hard, it all came together on it's own, and I was a lot happier.

What is the best part of your day?

After I feed my dog, she jumps up into bed and burrows her way under the covers to snuggle. It's easily the best (and cutest) part of every day.

What are you working on at the moment?

I opened up a Casetify store recently and have been playing around with different designs for cell phone cases. I also have a line of illustrated greeting cards on Etsy, and am working on a number of collaborations with different websites, bloggers and businesses.

All of Roy's Super Cute Cards & Phone cases are available Internationally, so get your hands on them while you can!

Roy has also shared this gorgeous download for your all. Add this to your phone, your desktop, anywhere you think it'll make you a little more productive.
