Spotlight On: Best Apps for Business

Running The Study Room or any small business is very labour intensive, between the hours spent on Instagram & Twitter, Filing, emailing, invoicing and packing up all your lovely productive stationery, working can and will take over your life; this was one of the biggest shocks to the system in my first six months after starting this venture.

So, anything that can streamline my working day or make working a little easier, is something that gets my attention. Today I am sharing apps that are the secret to my success; whether they take the pressure off your social media, allow you to work at your own pace (even if that is 3’o’clock in the morning) or help you to find inspiration, these are the apps I and The Study Room cannot live without.

Want it Wednesday

Working for oneself can be a drain. The lack of interactivity (if you are a solo worker) can take its toll, your environment can often sap inspiration or sometimes you just lack the motivation to get through the day.

Having a portable set up is the key to changing your working day and increasing your productivity levels. Having always had portability at the front of my mind when working I have found ways to take my working day (short of packing your lovely goods in a coffee shop) with me wherever I go.

Like most people, I rely on my trusty laptop. I am not grown up enough to have a desktop computer and being able to move around helps boost my productivity.
But sometimes, the track pad will just not do. This week’s Want It Wednesday is all about wireless mice for your trusty desktop and laptop.

The Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Mouse 3600 is one of the best value and easiest to use.
It has an incredibly long battery life (up to a year without having to change a battery) is super neat and portable and will work seamlessly with both right and left hand users.
This mouse works on virtually any surface, so if you are working on a mouse pad or a reclaimed wood table, there’s no dip in its sensitivity. It’s small too, so it won’t add bulk to your already enormous work bag if you are taking it on the road.

Having looked at some of the other portable mice on the market (looking at you apple magic mouse!) this is so cost effective, you could by one for your home office and one to have a permanent nestling spot in your laptop bag and still have change for lunch while working.
This mouse is one of my favourites. Some tasks need more than a broad knowledge of keyboard short cuts and this one fits the bill without breaking the bank.

You can buy The Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Mouse 3600 from Amazon and from major electrical outlets.

Want It Wednesday

Running The Study Room has proven on thing above all others. I am a slave to my laptop and my phone.
It's a fact that I have come to accept. I had thought I was a slave to technology prior to staring this venture, alas they truly were my salad days.

I am very conscious of keeping a normal work/life balance; but my laptop comes everywhere with me.
If I had a lunch appointment or dinner, if I am early I will whip out my laptop and will reply to emails, edit photos and update the website.

Having a smart phone makes things a little easier, but on the whole, some things just need to be done on a laptop.
So it has now become my constant companion; which has meant it takes a bit of a beating in my bag.
And I have gone through a lot of laptop bags to prove it.

This minimalist and durable laptop case from Amazon Basics has changed the game.
Made with flexible neoprene, this laptop case makes working remotely a much easier prospect.
Neoprene is waterproof too, so rain, water and liquids run off with little to no impact to your laptop and the flexible material allows carrying extra items, like a notebook and charging cables without issue (or room in your bag)

This has lasted longer than all of my other sleeves and I couldn't be happier.

There are a variety of colours and sizes so you aren't restricted by style or your laptop and because it's made by Amazon it is eligible for Prime, so you could test my recommendation tomorrow (yay for Prime!)

Don't believe me?
Have a look at the reviews on Amazon about it.
